This is a great course for those wanting to underpin their practical skill with theoretical knowledge.?This course starts in September and is one full day a week on a Monday. It is great for professional horticulturalists and enthusiastic amateurs.? There is a level of commitment required to revise for the exams.?

Attainment of both the Certificate in Practical Horticulture and the Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture will result in learners achieving the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture. The combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills will provide fully rounded capabilities. A formal certificate is issued by the RHS on successful completion of the qualification the learner is enrolled on.

The RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture provides learners with a solid theoretical grounding.

This offers an understanding behind the science of plants, such as how they function, nutrition, health, adaptations and various planting styles. Learners will also develop an understanding of the horticultural industry and the vital role plants play in enhancing biodiversity.

In order to achieve this qualification, learners must complete and achieve two examinations. These exams are paper-based and available in February and June each year. Sample exam papers are available for revision purposes.


Optional units:
Sustainable garden practice at Rosewarne

You won't need any formal qualifications to enrol, but you must be enthusiastic about plants.

This qualification will be entirely assessed by a summative, unseen written
examination for each unit. Therefore examination 1 will cover Unit 1 (topics 1.1-1.4)
and examination 2 will cover Unit 2 (topics 2.1-2.4).

The RHS course at Level 3, RHS practical at level 2, or become self-employed gardeners and work for other organisations in a gardening role, plus working in plant nurseries and garden centres.
