This course is designed to help develop new practical skills and knowledge linked to the management of habitats and outdoor environments. Skills Bootcamps aim to develop practical skills that can help lead to employment, promotion and expand self employed business potential.

These skills include the safe use of hand tools and machinery to maintain habitats, including strimmers, brush cutters and mowers.

Fencing maintenance and core knowledge of health and safety and countryside related legislation as well as an introduction to ecology surveying and best practice.

Skills for Life | Skills Bootcamps

You will learn about relevant workplace legislation and laws linked to working in the land-based sector. You will also have an introduction to ecology and conservation, linked to managing habitats, flora and fauna.

The practical course will involve the maintenance of wild conservation areas as well as more formal grounds. Real-life problem-solving situations will be simulated, including, refuelling, topping up oil, dealing with a flooded engine, changing spark plugs and machinery maintenance as well as gaining several hours experience safely using machinery and hand tools, including strimmers, brush cutters, mowers, scythes and more. The repair of fences, gates and stiles will also be included.

You will also be supported with C.V. writing, job applications, preparing for interviews and writing simple business plans.

For candidate looking to gain practical skills for employment, skills to support current employment and self employed candidate wishing to expand skill sets and business potential.

Formative assessment for a level 2 College Certificate of Competence.

Level 3 bootcamp, employment or apprenticeship.
