Dog Walking Certificate of Technical Competence

Course information

This short course will give you the technical knowledge and skills to become a professional dog walker.

You will learn a range of related topics, including; the roles and responsibilities of a dog walker, dog breeds and their characteristics, health and safety when walking dogs, and how to conduct behaviour/health checks for a dog.

You will develop your vocational understanding of this industry while understanding the broad scope of a dog walker.

What You Will Learn

You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker, including about the laws and codes of conduct that govern your role. You will be able to identify and describe a variety of dog breeds, including their characteristics and behavioural traits. You will be able to plan and execute a walk safely, using the tools properly and conducting a thorough risk assessment.

Assessment

You will undertake a series of assessments to produce a portfolio of work, ending with a 1-1 oral assessment.

Progression

You will have all the skills and knowledge you need to start your own business as a dog walker, or enter into employment with an existing dog walking company. You will also be able to progress towards full qualifications in animal care and management, such as a Level 2 Certificate or Level 3 Diploma.
