More than 100 people from the farming community have benefited from Duchy College’s Sustainable Farming Incentive workshops, hosted in partnership with Cornish Mutual.
The two successful events took place at Duchy College Stoke Climsland and Cornwall College University Centre at the Eden Project, providing practical advice and essential guidance to help farmers navigate key schemes, optimise farm management and secure available funding.
Edward Richardson from Farm Cornwall delivered insightful talks, offering expert advice tailored to the needs of local farmers.
Attendees gained valuable knowledge on sustainable practices and explored opportunities to enhance their operations and benefit both financially and environmentally.
“These workshops are a fantastic example of how we’re supporting the local farming community with practical tools and expert insights,” said Lisa Piper, head of business development at The Cornwall College Group.
Lisa continued: “By working collaboratively with partners like Cornish Mutual and Farm Cornwall, we can help farmers thrive while embracing sustainable practices that benefit the wider community.”
Cornish Mutual’s Head of Brand and Sustainability Juliet Allister added: “The Sustainable Farming Incentive offers farmers the chance to achieve environmental sustainability alongside productivity and has the potential to enhance business resilience and sustainable growth.
“With several intervention options available, we are keen to help farmers gain the most from the new schemes. Cornish Mutual is delighted to be partnering with Duchy College to deliver these workshops and support South West farmers build for a better future.”
Thanks to the success of these sessions and the positive feedback received, Duchy College has announced plans to host four additional workshops in 2025 at both Duchy College Stoke Climsland and Cornwall College University Centre at the Eden Project.
These upcoming events will focus on individual Sustainable Farming Incentive options, providing more in-depth insights and tailored support to help farmers maximise the scheme’s benefits.
The events are made possible through The Future is Green Project, part of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Rural Prosperity Fund.
