Course information

T Levels are new courses which will follow GCSEs and will be equivalent to three A Levels. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work.

As technology continues to transform the agricultural sector, skilled and adaptable engineers are in high demand. This T Level at Duchy College Stoke Climsland equips you with core knowledge and practical skills in engineering systems, machinery operation and repair, and workshop techniques. You’ll apply these skills in our state-of-the-art workshops and during an invaluable industry placement.

In your first year, you’ll build a strong foundation in engineering systems, focusing on essential operating processes.

During your second year, you’ll advance your expertise, learning to inspect and test machinery and equipment using diagnostics to identify and resolve faults in engines, hydraulic systems, and braking systems.

Throughout the course, you’ll also gain a thorough understanding of safe working practices, sustainability, operating principles, and the wider agricultural supply chain.

In the first year you will cover core topics such as:
• Health and Safety

• Working in Agriculture, Environmental and Animal Care Sector
• Ethics
• Business
• Equality
• Communication
• Relationship management
• Finance
• Information and data
• Biosecurity
• Supply Chain
• Land-based equipment and machinery repair and maintenance
• Operating principles of systems and components

In the second year you will study a standalone occupational specialism in:
Land-based Engineering – This will develop further understanding of Land-based Engineering covering the maintenance, repair, diagnosis and installation of land-based machinery and equipment.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Four or more GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and preferably maths, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification and GCSE English grade 4.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and GCSEs in maths, English and a science-based subject at grade 4 or above

Course options after this programme
• This course is equivalent to three A Levels, so you could decide to progress onto Higher Education and study a degree,
• You could complete a Higher Apprenticeship or,
• Go straight into employment within the sector

• Career options following the T Level in Agriculture, Land Management and Production – Land Based Engineering could include agricultural engineer, service technician, technical sales, technical support, machinery design/development, environmental technician, forestry engineer, advisory services
