Course information

If you love everything to do with working outdoors and have your sights set on working within the Land based industry, then this is the course for you and will be your first step in your career.

The first thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about practical learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time on the college farm and college estate, learning by doing as you work on a range of tasks including agricultural, horticultural and countryside elements.

You’ll be working with all the livestock on the farm: cattle, sheep and pigs. You’ll be performing tasks that help to maintain their accommodation, health treatments and selection for breeding and for sale. You will be developing all of the essential skills you need to assist with the care of animals. You will also gain an understanding of wildlife and conservation in the local area. Alongside this, you will assist with a range of estate maintenance tasks, like fencing and maintenance of structures. You will also be driving our tractors and making use of our tractor driving area, as well as on the farm. You will also learn how to plant crops, sow seeds, propagate plants and manage orchards.

As a Level 1 course, this diploma is all about introducing you to the Land Based industry and developing your essential skills. You’ll be learning from experienced professionals, who are there to give you the very best start to your career.
