Course information

The Vocational Specialist course is part of our Vocational Pathway. This course is for learners who aspire to enrol on the Agriculture Certificate or Diploma but do not have the GCSE entry criteria, yet.

Learners will have the opportunity to study Agriculture units as part of the NCFE Land-based Studies qualification whilst working towards level 1 English and Maths.

Within this pathway, you will focus on developing your vocational skills ready for the next stage of your learning. This will include a focus on skills related to Agriculture. You will also build your teamwork skills, and self-confidence and develop your English and Maths.

There will be a focus on your personal development to support you to build your self-confidence and resilience ready for your next steps.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Two or more GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, or successful competition of Entry Level Qualification.
• Learners with relevant industry experience but no GCSEs at Grade 2 may be considered based on interview.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and, where relevant, progress in maths and/or English.

GCSE grades 1 (or equivalent Entry 3) Maths and English

You will need to complete a minimum of 30 hours work placement as part of your programme.

You will study an NCFE Level 1 Introduction to Land-based Studies. You will be required to complete assignments and practical tasks totalling 13 units (graded Pass/Fail). The course will also run alongside Maths and English Level 1, allowing you to continue and enhance your skills and knowledge in these subject areas gaining the entry criteria for Agriculture.

Once you have completed this course, you can apply for the specialist subject area.
