Understanding SFI and how to make it work for you – Eden Project

Duchy College working in partnership with Cornish Mutual would like to invite you to attend an information event with Edward Richardson from Farm Cornwall. This event offers practical advice and support on navigating key farming schemes to optimise your farm management and secure available funding.

The session will cover:

• Introduction to the overall Environmental Land Management Package, Sustainable Farming Incentives (SFI), Countryside Stewardship (CS) grant aid, Farming Investment Fund (FIF) and the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway
• How to layer payments
• Plus, we will look at the use of Magic Maps and Land app for assisting the farming community in building a SFI

We will also be announcing further workshops relating to specific SFI options which will take place in January 2025.

Edward Richardson

Edward is a Farm Adviser and Rural Outreach Worker for Farm Cornwall, based in Penzance. He provides a wide range of support to farmers facing challenges such as debt, succession planning, mental health issues, technical difficulties, or isolation. Additionally, Edward offers expertise in applying for schemes like the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Countryside Stewardship Grants, leveraging his deep knowledge of these programs to help farmers navigate issues with the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).

Before moving into farm advisory work, Edward gained extensive hands-on experience in farming. He has worked with Farm Cornwall for 15 years, following his role as a Farm Manager in Cumbria, where he managed beef, sheep, and arable operations. Prior to that, he spent 14 years as Farm Manager at Durham Agricultural College, overseeing dairy, pigs, sheep, cereals, and potatoes. In between these roles, he ran an organic box scheme in County Durham, growing about 50% of the produce and delivering 300 boxes weekly. Earlier in his career, Edward worked on farms in Berkshire, Gloucestershire, and Shropshire, after attending Agricultural College in Shropshire.
