Foundation Learning: Skills Pathway
Are you looking to develop your skills for further learning or work? Our Foundation Learning: ‘Skills Pathway’ develops and prepares you for further studies or employment, through a blend of practical and classroom-based learning.
You will have the opportunity to explore a range of vocational options: utilising cross-college departments to gain an insight in to different areas and develop your skills through internal employment based experiences. The invaluable opportunity for work placements can also form a part of your learning.
You’ll be attending college for three (3) days a week.

What you will learn
You will have opportunities to try a range of vocational options (these can vary year on year. Some examples are; animal care, equine, sports and horticulture).
Running alongside your vocational studies will be employability skills, English and mathematics (either a GCSE or Functional Skill) helping you to succeed in your chosen pathway. Gaining employment-based skills in a work placement will be a key strand running alongside your course.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for this programme, you will need to be working at a minimum of Entry Level 2 for English and maths.
Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing throughout the academic year and will be a combination of practical, written and oral assessments. Many of our assessments are available ‘on demand’ and you will be prepared by specialist teachers for these in order to support your achievement
During this course you will work towards an employability qualification, covering key elements such as exploring different career options, interview techniques and CV writing to become work ready. You will also develop your English and mathematics.
Progression
On successful completion of this programme, you may to progress onto our Vocation Pathway or Works Pathway: Employability. We will work with you to develop your pathway plan.
