Students set to raise thousands for the Royal British Legion
The Military and Protective Services students at Duchy College Stoke Climsland are gearing up to raise funds for the Armed Forces and Veteran community in their annual Poppy Run.
Every year, the students demonstrate their commitment to the Royal British Legion, raising both funds and awareness in honour of those who have served.
This year’s challenge, taking place on Monday 11th of November, is designed to include students of all abilities and encourages them to complete mile loops around the college campus, as fast or as leisurely as they prefer, for as many laps as they can within a two-hour window.
“The Poppy Run is an event we all look forward to each year,” said Joseph Griffiths, a Level 3 Military and Protective Services student. “It’s an opportunity for us, alongside the whole college community, to give back to those who have given so much. We have been preparing for this run and want to do our bit to support the Armed Forces community.”
Last year, the learners raised over £4,000 through this event and in the last four years, the total raised is more than £16,000.
For Jon Stone, Senior Study Programme Manager for Military and Protective Services at the Stoke Climsland campus, this is “a fantastic opportunity for staff and learners to challenge themselves and raise money for a great cause.”
“Most of our students progress into various roles within the services, the Poppy Run gives them a glimpse into comradery and encourages them to continue contributing to the community,” Jon added.
