Pre-Apprenticeship Diploma in Agriculture Level 1

Always wanted to work in Agriculture and Land and need to develop your English and maths skills to get on to your dream apprenticeship? This could be the course for you. As you study, you will learn and develop the practical skills required for employment in the agricultural sector, whilst gaining additional transferable skills such as tractor driving and safe operation, boosting your career progression.

You will also work on your English and maths levels enabling you to progress in your chosen career in the future. At Duchy College Rosewarne you will find a wonderful learning environment whilst undertaking your theory and practical sessions. These will include the maintenance of equipment, basic operations of a tractor and tractor mounted implements, preparation of sites for planting and maintaining the health of extensive crops.

You will learn how to work safely, ensuring the welfare of yourself and others in the workplace as well as adopting good Bio-security practices to obtain maximum crop yield. All our lecturers are specialist in their given area, providing you with an excellent learning experience. All units are designed to give you the skills required to start a successful career in Agriculture.

What you will learn

This hands-on experience in a real working environment will enable you to apply the skills and knowledge in the workplace and consolidate the lessons in the practical arena. You will develop specific skills and broaden your employability portfolio whilst working in your placement. In addition to enhancing your understanding of your subject, you will develop essential life skills, such as working with others to communicate confidently and effectively to care for the crops that you are responsible for.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 2 in English and maths

Work experience

You will be required to undertake a Work Experience placement one day per week, completing a minimum of 60 hours.

Assessment

Two on-line exams and a range or written and practical assessments.

Progression

Successful completion of the Level 1 Pre-Apprenticeship Diploma in Agriculture offers you the exciting opportunity to progress on to the Level 2 Agricultural courses at the College where you could continue to develop your knowledge and gain higher qualifications as well as on to the Level 2 General Farm Worker apprenticeship (subject to English and maths levels).

There is a further Level 3 Apprenticeship programme within the agriculture Industry with placements in both crops and Livestock farming, which is an excellent way to earn whilst learning in your chosen field.
