Foundation Learning Vocational Pathway: Vocational Studies
The FL Vocational Pathway develops and prepares you for further studies or employment, through a blend of practical and classroom-based learning. In this Pathway you will experience a wide range of vocational areas providing you with invaluable information to assist with career choice pathways.
You will have the opportunity to explore a range of vocational options: utilising cross-college departments to gain an insight in to different areas and develop your skills through internal employment based experiences. The invaluable opportunity for work placements can also form a part of your learning.
This Pathway is offered at different campuses. The vocational options on offer are specific to the campus you choose to study at, where you will benefit from being taught be a range of highly-skilled professionals.
Our vision is to support you to be INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT so that you are well-prepared to engage with the wider community. The Level 1 Introductory in Vocational Studies course will give you a range of opportunities and experiences to inform your future steps, assist with your progression and find out what’s right for you.

What you will learn
At Duchy Stoke Climsland why not try out agriculture, animal care, equine studies, rural business, engineering or sport? All subjects available across our mainstream courses and preparing you for progression onwards. Running alongside your vocational studies will be employability skills, English and mathematics (either a GCSE or Functional Skill) helping you to succeed in your chosen pathway. Gaining employment based skills in a work placement will be a key strand running alongside your course.

Entry Level 2 English and maths
Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing throughout the academic year and could be practical, written or oral. Many of our assessments are available ‘on demand’ and you will be prepared by specialist teachers for these in order to support your achievement.
On successful achievement you will receive a BTEC Level 1 Introductory in Vocational Studies qualification and a Functional Skills or GCSE in English and mathematics at a level appropriate to you.
Progression
Learners tell us that the opportunity to explore cross-college vocational pathways is an opportunity to understand what the higher-level course would be like. They also get to know the staff whilst gaining skills and knowledge to build confidence to apply for a higher-level course in their chosen subject area.
