If you’re keen to work outdoors and to learn how to protect the British countryside, then studying Countryside Mangement at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland is the place for you.

British habitats, and the wildlife they support, are increasingly under threat and our climate is changing. For people who are passionate about our great outdoors, there are careers in conservation which could give you the chance to help make a positive impact on our environment.

Our Countryside Management course has been designed to equip you with the scientific knowledge and practical skills to start your journey towards a challenging and rewarding career in conservation.

During your time with us, you will cover a broad range of subjects through practical sessions and classroom activities whilst carrying out coastal habitat surveys, terrestrial surveys, undertaking land management activities and working with local communities on a host of outreach projects. You’ll gain hands on experience learning practical skills whilst improving your knowledge of field surveying and species identification, helping you to understand the importance of biodiversity and habitat management.

All our courses are industry focused and our inspirational teaching staff have all worked in the industry, gaining you a vital insight into your chosen career path.

You’ll also become career ready with our industry work placements aimed at developing your knowledge and practical skills within an established working environment.

What you will learn

During this course you will have access to Duchy College’s 283-hectare estate and woodlands and learn about the management of game bird, farm habitat, woodlands and fisheries. You will also study countryside management techniques including land-based machinery, pest and predator control.

Entry requirements

Maths, English and one other GCSE at grade 4 or above required plus 2 other GCSEs including grade 4 or above

Work experience

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement.

Progression

After completing this course you can go on to:

University study such as our FdSc Estate & Farm Enterprise Management or our FdSc Conservation & Countryside.
